As President and Chief Executive Office of East Mississippi Community College, Dr. Scott Alsobrooks sits at the center of a dynamic organization that contributes to the education, economic and workforce development prosperity of a region that is a key stakeholder in the state. EMCC’s capital assets exceed $100M and its operating revenue is approximately $35M per annum. Recently, Alsobrooks has successfully launched EMCC’s Communiversity, a $42M facility dedicated to economic and workforce development for the advanced manufacturing sector. This unique facility, unparalleled in Mississippi, houses technical education programs, incubator space, corporate training and a career exploration imagination center. Also, he has led the financing, development and construction of a 147 bed dorm and tutoring center to be opened in January or 2021. EMCC is a catalyst for economic growth, workforce development and education for the region. The EMCC team works with the economic development community to recruit new industries as well as to support existing in the area. Alsobrooks has spent more than 30 years designing systems to support business growth, career advancement and economic opportunity for Mississippians. He has served in both the private and public sectors successfully leading organizations during both times of expansion and uncertainty. Before taking the helm at EMCC, Alsobrooks spent 14 years at Pearl River Community College leading the college’s workforce and economic development efforts. A key highlight of that tenure included developing the effort to construct the PRCC-Hancock County Aviation Academy at Stennis International Airport. He also partnered with business and industry at Port Bienville, Stennis Airport, Stennis Space Center, the Hattiesburg area, and Pearl River County on many economic and workforce development projects. Prior to his time at PRCC, Alsobrooks spent several years with the University of Southern Mississippi assisting manufacturers around the state and region with technical and workforce solutions, primarily utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to support greater profits, economic growth and/or sustainability. Alsobrooks began his career at Stennis Space Center as a Test Operations Engineer with Rocketdyne and later as supervisor of the Fluid Component Processing Facility. In the later role, Alsobrooks managed a union operation that operated a class 10k clean room that supported all areas of rocket engine testing.
