About Scott Avera

Scott Avera is a born entrepreneur, developing his first commercial software product, The Mind Machine, at the young age of 15 – just two years after earning his Eagle Scout! He is the prior owner and general manager of Ascent Solutions, an Inc 500 software company known for products such as PKZIP and WinZip. Before selling to a private investor in 2002, Scott grew the company from a small start-up to a corporation with over ten million dollars in annual sales and representatives in every major market worldwide. In 1998, Inc. Magazine ranked the company 128th on their prestigious 500 fastest-growing companies list and in Scott was named a Technology Finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards. In 2006 Scott co-founded The Business Backer and was a day-to-day contributor, Chairman and President of its holding company. During his nine-year tenure, the company grew from a start-up to a corporation with over eighty employees, putting nearly a quarter billion dollars to work in thousands of businesses across the nation. TBB received numerous awards including being ranked in Inc. Magazine’s Top Rankings four years in a row with nearly twenty million in revenue in 2014. In 2013, TBB received the prestigious Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics. Certain assets of the company were sold to Chicago based NYSE listed Enova International, Inc. in 2015. Today, Scott continues his journey as a successful serial entrepreneur as Founder of KnowHowPower, makers of CaptureHow™, the world’s best solution for capturing “who does what and how” in any business or organization. Scott is also currently a member of the Queen City Angels, a Cincinnati based investment group committed to growing young businesses. Scott is a graduate of Miami University, attended Miami University’s European Center in Luxembourg, was a founding Director of the Student Credit Union, and ultimately was inducted as a Miami Entrepreneurial Fellow due to his personal success and active involvement with students and faculty at the Farmer School of Business. Scott also holds an M.B.A. from Indiana University from which he graduated in the top ten percent (10%) of his class. Scott enjoys traveling, trekking (recently to Mount Everest Base Camp), photography, skiing, exercising, house projects, movies, and time with his family.
