About Scott Gallagher

I am a professionally trained clinical counsellor specializing in community mental health care. I am currently registered as a Canadian Certified Counsellor through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and have been in clinical practice since 2013. My main area has been the practice of counselling psychology within the health care system, provide counselling services to clients struggling with mood and anxiety disorders, substance and process addictions (sex, pornography, gambling), concurrent disorders, grief and loss, trauma, as well as meaning and identity development. I currently work in the Surrey-North Delta Primary Care Network, providing individual counselling to individuals attached to a family physician or nurse practitioner in the local community. During my career, I have also worked as a front line clinician and team leader on a variety of community mental health teams, serving a range of client populations, as well as part-time private practice work. I have been trained in the use of several empirically-supported treatment modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I completed my undergraduate training in psychology at Simon Fraser University in 2011, and my graduate training in counselling psychology in 2013. I have also been actively involved in both quantitative and qualitative research projects at the graduate and undergraduate level. I have presented my own research in the areas of close relationships, forgiveness, and bereavement at several professional and academic conferences in Canada and the United States. I have received several awards and scholarships for my research activities from local and national governing bodies, including the Canadian Psychological Association and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. I am also dedicated to the dissemination of research, clinical resources, and public education through conducting small and large group presentations and workshops on issues pertaining to mental health, bereavement, sexuality, close relationships, integrating faith and clinical practice, and positive psychology.
