I've worked for over 20 years in various capacities supporting IT - focusing primarily on network Security. I have hands-on experience and understanding of networking protocols, services, troubleshooting and administration. In the past, I maintained A+, N+, MCSE and MCT certifications - and worked for several years in a structured classroom/training environment providing instruction on key Networking, Security and Firewall concepts. Concurrent with my experiences in training - I transitioned to support of Firewalls and other security technologies maintained on-site and remotely managed as part of an MSSP enterprise. At times my team maintained and services a customer base exceeding devices - primarily in the United States - but also Western Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean, South America and Asia. In this capacity it was necessary that I demonstrate daily-Comprehensive understanding of network communications and protocols (TCP/UDP)-Designing and Implementing VPN connections between physical sites and for remote users-Designing and Implementing a secure baseline of firewall policies/rules which do not unnecessarily expose my users to threats - and, when requests are proposed asking for changes that might result in harm, clearly outline the negative impact those changes might have and offer alternatives-An ability to ask proper questions and rapidly understand a networking environment to which I do not have direct access - and recommend/implement solutions to restore proper function-Understanding and implementation of routing concepts - both static and dynamic environments - primarily on edge devices-Ability to diagnose and resolve problems associated with Threat Management - including IPS/IDS, Gateway AV, Data Leak Filters and Web Content Filtering-Frequently communicate in clear and understandable terms what problems are found and what the solutions entail (risk assessment) for people who, frequently, have only limited understanding of networking concepts-Detailed record keeping and change-control documentation. My recent focus has been on the Fortigate Firewall/Security platform - with a fair number of CISCO ASA devices included. In the past I have worked with Sonicwall, Juniper and proprietary devices. I worked for nearly 19 years for my most recent employer before COVID related problems forced staffing cutbacks - I like to think that speaks highly of my abilities, my work ethic and my dependability.
