About Scott Helms

I am a seasoned physician assistant who worked in Family Practice for 12 1/2 years and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I found, however, that after working in this field for so many years, I began to feel as if I were the 'Jack of all trades, master of none'. It was for this reason that I decided in late 2010 to pursue a career in Hematology/Oncology. I worked for Georgia Cancer Specialists for 2 months, after which unfortunately my and eight other midlevels' positions were eliminated due to budget restructuring. It was a great experience with a very talented group of individuals with whom I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work. After this, I transitioned back into Family Practice at Piedmont Physicians Group at Atlantic Station where I worked with a wonderful group of people for 4 1/2 great years. I was then presented with an opportunity to go back into Hematology/Oncology and decided to pursue my passion. It was quite difficult to leave those coworkers and patients who had become my extended family but I am now quite happy with my choice to explore new territory and am very excited to now be working with Piedmont Cancer Institute.
