Background

About Scott Jarvie

Scott Jarvie retired as Associate Director of the Watershed Planning and Ecosystem Science Section with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA). He received a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo in 1987 and has more than 25 years of experience in the planning and implementation of various restoration projects, biological inventories and monitoring projects. His Team collected aquatic and terrestrial monitoring data across the 9 watersheds in the greater Toronto region and along the Toronto waterfront. This work has been in support of TRCA’s Regional Watershed Monitoring Program, the Toronto Waterfront Monitoring Program and a variety of special projects. Monitoring activities have included fish community and in-stream habitat, benthic macroinvertebrate communities, surface water quality, fluvial geomorphology, stream flows and a series of fixed plots to assess terrestrial health and condition of forests, wetlands and meadow habitat. Reporting on this data by the group has included contributions to TRCA’s Watershed Report Cards and Watershed Strategies, Regional State of the Environment Reports and a number of site-specific Biological Inventory and Assessment Reports. More recently the group has focused on analyzing the data collected to date in order to identify the impacts of urbanization on watershed health and condition in Toronto. Scott has also been an instructor in the Ontario Stream Assessment Protocol since 2003, and for many years has administered the annual training courses and technical workshops for the OSAP on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
