About Scott Laseter

As a founding partner of KMCL Law and now in my fourth decade as an environmental lawyer, my practice has spanned the litigation, regulatory and transactional arenas. I strive to bring creativity and strategic vision wherever possible which I find often results in novel solutions to seemingly intractable problems. It has been my privilege to serve a wide range of clients including publicly traded companies, privately held businesses, municipal, county, and state governmental authorities, non-profits and individuals. My transactional practice has touched on well over ten thousand properties spread across all 50 states. I have represented publicly traded and private real estate companies, originating lenders, special servicers and other parties to loan securitization transactions, financial institutions, developers, governmental entities, and private individuals, in solving environmental problems arising out of buying, selling, owning, financing, and insuring real estate. Through this work I have participated in the redevelopment or repositioning of hundreds of environmentally challenged properties, including scores of Brownfield sites in Georgia and numerous properties under analogous programs across the country. I have also been designated as a testifying expert on environmental due diligence in real estate transactions. I have successfully represented clients in environmental litigation involving toxic torts, common law nuisance and trespass claim, federal and state cost recovery, and other statutory rights. I also have significant experience prosecuting insurance coverage for policyholders. In my regulatory practice I have participated in investigation and cleanup of contaminated sites, implementation and correction of stormwater control measures, evaluation and remedying surface water impacts, among others. I have also been involved in legislative initiatives, including participating in the drafting of Georgia’s Voluntary Remediation Program and amendments to the Georgia Brownfield Act. I am member of the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership (IGEL) class of 2013 and currently serve as secretary for the board of the Georgia Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation. I was elected to the IGEL board in 2014 and served as chair in 2019 and 2020. I have also served as a member and chairman of the Georgia Justice Project board of directors.
