About Scott MacDougall

Currently at the helm of Pembina Institute's Electricity program, my focus on clean electricity policy in Canada has helped advance a feasible, reliable, and cost-effective net-zero future. With over five years managing climate policy and regulations in the Alberta Government, I've become adept at navigating complex policy landscapes, promoting renewable energy initiatives, market-based climate solutions, and supporting the growth of a clean economy. I am a curious and driven energy transition leader with demonstrated success in multiple fields, including 14 years in industry, 5 in government, and 3 in non-profit. Expertise includes leadership, staff and project management, project development, electricity, mining and mineral processing, sustainability and climate strategy in the corporate sector, and climate policy. I am a jack of all trades and like to roll up my sleeves to apply my skills, and thrive in operations and project environments, as well as strategy and consulting. Teams, including multidisciplinary ones, I have assembled and led had some notable successes. We shared awards including a number of Suncor's President's Excellence Awards, a Jacobs Engineering Master Builder Award, and a silver award for Innovative Management from the Institute for Public Administration of Canada. My leadership approach is servant leadership, with a focus on developing staff to grow and step up in a positive culture that promotes tight bonds between team members. Also crucial was good hiring, seeking out individual coaching and support for staff and me, continuous improvement of team effectiveness, continuous two-way feedback.
