I started proofreading at The Stranger, a popular Seattle weekly newspaper, later moving up to copy editor, and eventually copy chief. As a freelance copy editor, my work has focused primarily on web-based content, covering everything from movie reviews to education to business advice. In my previous role as proofreader at Radarworks, a full-service marketing firm in Seattle, I worked on client-facing material and advertising creative, presented on multiple platforms. In my current position as proofreader at RR Donnelley, I work with our art production team to ensure packaging and marketing materials are brand-accurate and meet our international clients' demanding quality standards. As a copy editor and proofreader, my primary goal has been to ensure that copy is smooth, consistent, and error-free. Sometimes this requires rigorous editing, especially with commercial copy; other times—for example, when a writer’s unique voice needs to be preserved—a lighter touch is more appropriate. In the course of my career, I’ve attained a good working knowledge of both AP and Chicago styles. I am organized, systematic, and a good communicator, and I take deadlines seriously. Completion of a project ahead of the deadline is always my priority. I love language, and I love to help good writing become great (or simply to ensure that a great piece is without errors).
