Thank you for visiting my page!I am currently wearing many hats as I am an Adjunct Professor at Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a Sales Representative for Magnum Media, and a Park Ranger for Waukesha County (a bucket list item for many years). I enjoy working with and serving diverse people, as well as teaching and advising students and also working in the radio industry, all of which inspired me to pursue a variety of different positions and paths. If you want to know more about any of these positions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!In July 2020, I earned my Ph.D. in Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication (HSJMC), where I also received my Master of Arts Degree (with a Master’s Minor in History) in May 2017. Since graduating with my Ph.D, I have been fortunate to serve in HSJMC as a teaching/contract assistant professor and a postdoctoral associate.I have been fortunate during my time at the University of Minnesota to serve as an instructor in a number of courses, earning several awards and honors. In addition to these roles, I completed the Preparing Future Faculty Certificate and the Office of Equity and Diversity (OED) Diversity Certificate. Working with students was the main reason I attended graduate school and remains my favorite part of my career thus far.My research, including my PhD dissertation and book with the University of Missouri Press, “Pressing the Police and Policing the Press,” focuses on the history and law of the relationship between the press and police in the United States. More broadly, my research agenda focuses on media law (i.e. privacy, reporter’s privilege, and other First Amendment considerations related to free speech and freedom of the press, as well as Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Fourteenth Amendment issues), media ethics (journalism and strategic communication) and media history (i.e. the history of media, journalism, and news in the United States and abroad). I have been fortunate to win several awards for my research, including two major awards for my dissertation: the 2021 Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Nafziger-White-Salwen Dissertation Award and the 2020 University of Minnesota Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication Ralph D. Casey Dissertation Research Award.Prior to attending graduate school at UMN, I earned my B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015, a dream I had since I was young.For more info, please do not hesitate to contact me!
