About Scott Waller

Breaking into the technology field was anything but easy. But hey,"easy" is not why I turned my life around.The weight of the world can make goals feel like dreams, and dreams feel like fantasies. That's what it felt like for me after getting an English degree and immediately (ahem.literally) grinding away at coffee shops for what felt like a lifetime. I spent the last two years learning, creating, testing, breaking and rebuilding code and it has absolutely paid off. Finally, I am at work in the technology field. Learning what it's like to be in an office. Learning what I like about my job and what I don't like. Learning how to interact professionally with coworkers and supervisors. Learning the value I bring to a team as someone with a sincere, deep level of communication skills. I'm not the world's best programmer. I don't get to write nearly as much code as I hope to in the future. But soft skills matter, too. Taking risks matters. Feeling like an imposter matters. Just as I believe everyone should work in a restaurant or a coffee shop at some point in their life, I believe that we all need to experience the feeling of insecurity that comes with trying something new. We learn about ourselves, yes.but we also understand a fundamentally human feeling felt the world around-felt most often by people less fortunate than ourselves. This isn't much about code. Or my experience. It's not about asking for jobs or connections. It's about me, isn't it?
