Background
About Scott Wegenast
Building a career in statewide government relations, public relations, member experience, brand management, Social media and email marketing, video and publication design, advertising and marketing campaigns, external communications, and event planning. My experience in grassroots organizing within issue campaigns with coalitions is where I find energy and do my best work. Lead the AARP Kentucky Team and volunteers as Interim State Director from July - December 2021. Serving AARP Kentucky's members as Associate State Director for Communications and Outreach. Previously, served as ASD for Advocacy and Outreach. From 2009 to 2014, managed media, marketing, PR and communications as Associate State Director for Communications. My role was to collaborate with National and State teams to create and implementation of comprehensive media relations, brand management, public relations and communications programs designed to strengthen the work of AARP in Kentucky and positioning the Association as a leading force in social change. Previously served as Community Outreach and Communications Supervisor for the Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District. I supervised the District’s community outreach team, marketing and communication for the District's public outreach programming - Kentuckiana Air Education (KAIRE). Issue campaign field work included Manager of Grassroots Advocacy for the Kentucky Alliance to Control Tobacco in Our Neighborhoods, managing a part-time team of local organizers statewide and coordinating its statewide grassroots coalition, Kentucky Healthy Investment for Kids (KHIK), while serving as a registered legislative agent (another way to say,"Lobbyist"). Proud to have served nine years as a Policy Analyst and registered legislative agent for the Catholic Conference of Kentucky representing the state’s four Roman Catholic Dioceses in the General Assembly. Bachelor of Arts - Political Science from the University of Louisville and Masters Degree in Media and Communications from Webster University (St. Louis, Missouri). A Louisville native, sharing a home with his wife. Staying close to our grown daughters now pursuing their own paths in life.
