About Scott Weir

Life doesn't always lead us where we expect and that is certainly the case with me. I am a person who takes pride in being a voracious learner, constantly diving into different topics to help better understand our world so that I can conscientiously look for ways to have a positive impact. I have a background in Political Science, which mostly has given me a keen interest in policy, politics, history and world affairs that shape our societies and create the world we live in. I am always asking "What causes and "How does influence inevitably the answer is always more complicated and nuanced than it first appears. One of my most prominent skills is my ability to deep dive into a topic, work through the complexities, and communicate it with others in more approachable terms. I have run businesses most of my life and am proud of the variety of skills that I have been able to learn, develop and become confident in ranging from financial acumen and project management to sales and people management. I enjoy the variety and perpetual challenges that building and operating a business entails and am proud of our current company Kicking Horse Janitorial for our high-quality service and our great team of staff. I have also been able to use these varied skills, along with my policy background, to support other entrepreneurs in some of my previous roles (as a business banker & and running a crowd lending platform for entrepreneurs), help found and build up various community organizations (Golden Co-operative Radio, East & West Kootenay Community Investment Co-operatives) and contribute to the boards that I serve on (Columbia Valley Credit Union & Golden Co-operative Radio). I am committed to building a better, more equitable and inclusive world and work every day to that end.
