About Scott Winkler

Scott Winkler obtained his Bachelors Degree in Architecture from the University of Houston. He began his career in Houston, Texas before moving to Fredericksburg, Texas to work with a firm recognized for their historic preservation expertise. He relocated to the New England area in 2001 to continue to pursue his passion for the preservation and adaptive reuse of existing and historic structures. With over 25 years of experience in architectural practice, his work has centered around complex renovations and the adaptive reuse of existing and historic structures including many National Register listed properties. Much of his work has involved meeting local, state, and federal preservation guidelines by following the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation as well as local preservation ordinances. Scott's intimate knowledge of existing and historic building construction materials and methods led to his role as a Building Enclosure Consultant. He regularly performs forensic analysis of existing building envelope failures and diagnosis of causes of deterioration in historic building materials, especially masonry. He consults with building owners and other architects on appropriate repair and restoration materials and methods for existing and historic structures. He also consults with other architects on appropriate building envelope detailing to maintain long-term performance of their new building designs. Scott is a registered architect in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Washington DC and Florida, and maintains a National Council of Architectural Registration Boards certification.
