About Sean MacFarlane

Sean Macfarlane is a Partner with Bugden Allen Graham Lawyers, where he provides expert advice to help clients navigate the minefield of strata and community titles. In addition to advising many of WA's leading strata management businesses, Sean represents some of WA's largest strata companies in the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) and in court proceedings. Sean also consults with developers on strata and community titles subdivision, termination of strata schemes and re-development options. Working at Lavan for over 2 years as Special Counsel, Sean provided specialist legal advice to many of WA's top strata and community title developers and was the lead lawyer on major subdivisions including a 203 lot re-subdivision. He also built a large strata management practice representing strata managers and strata companies in the SAT and providing other specialist strata advice. In 2021 Sean's strata expertise was recognised with him receiving a Property and Real Estate Rising Star award by Doyle's Guide. Sean was Lead Advisor in Parliament to the Minister for Lands for the debate and passage of the Strata Titles Amendment Bill 2018 and Community Titles Bill 2018, the most significant reforms to property law in WA in over 20 years. Sean was dedicated to the strata reforms for over 6 and half years as Instructing Officer for the Strata Titles Amendment Bill 2018 and he instructed parliamentary drafters on the Community Titles Bill 2018 and the Strata Titles (General) Regulations 2019. Sean's commitment to the strata reforms was recognised with the award of a Special Commendation at the Institute of Public Administration Australia WA Achievement Awards 2019. Sean is regularly in the SAT representing strata companies. Sean advises on structuring of strata subdivision, community titles subdivision, seller disclosure, strata management compliance and strata dispute resolution. Sean also drafts contract and other strata documentation In addition to being a lawyer, Sean has worked as a television producer and television director (winning a runner award in the 1996 Asian Television Awards as the producer and director of the television program Kids At Work), associate publisher of a publishing business, marketing director of several international media businesses, general manager of a successful international training business, chief executive officer of an international television broadcast training centre and director of an international land titling and land information consultancy operated by the Department of Land Information / Landgate.
