About Sean McCormick

Throughout my life I have worked to become a better human. The definition of that word has changed for me over the years. Today, that title has translated into empathy, compassion, honesty, and authenticity in my work, in my hobbies, and in my personal relationships. In everything I do I try to exercise kindness and understanding. This has served me well in my time in front of class, on the stage of a theatre, and behind the bar. Today, I employ those virtues to become a more competent educator, instructional designer, and ethicist. Since I became an adjunct instructor in 2016, I have used my versatile experiences to make the presentation and design of my courses inclusive, accessible, and enjoyable. I employ mixed media in my courses including textbooks, articles, documentaries, video lectures, novels, short stories, film, and television shows. I have experience in face-to-face (F2F) learning, asynchronous course design, and synchronous course design. In all of my courses, I ensure that my lectures are inclusive and meet the needs of various learning types by utilizing mixed media including text, audio, images, and videos. As an instructor of philosophy and comparative religion, I organize my courses to include lectures, seminar discussions, and small group learning. My research is primarily interdisciplinary and includes topics in the fields of bioethics, philosophy, and comparative religion. I am interested in the ethics of human enhancement technologies, their relation to conceptions of human nature, and their just distribution. I am also interested in mythic narratives and the socio-political aims of the authors of those narratives; I employ a specific focus on narrative characters used as prototypical figures or role models for intended audiences. My ideal career would combine many of my interests into a singular position. In my work, I would enjoy being immersed in higher education administration, policymaking, teaching, philosophy, healthcare, ethics, the law, and advocacy.
