About Sean Murphy

At Voconiq, we are pioneering the use of data science to bring quantitative rigor to the field of social risk and social license. Our mission is to help companies in growth industries (renewable, mining, agriculture, infrastructure and more) understand and improve their impact on the communities where they operate, fostering more socially responsible and sustainable business practices. I lead our data science team, where we focus on leveraging advanced analytics to best serve our clients while building a scalable data architecture. I’ve worked directly with our CEO to shape our technology roadmap, overseen the transition to cloud-based systems, and driven significant improvements in delivery times and data quality. My team and I have scaled our operations to support global clients and secured substantial revenue growth - maintaining an impressively high client retention rate while attracting new clients with innovative data products. By building a robust data infrastructure, we’ve been able to maintain high staff engagement and automate processes to grow our revenue without proportional increases in headcount. Before joining Voconiq, I specialized in extracting psychological insights from complex datasets as a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. My specialties were dyadic analysis, historical NLP, and longitudinal designs. My final project as an academic researcher challenged our understanding of Neuroticism, and was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, one of the best scientific journals in the world. I've also taught courses on R and advanced statistical modeling, and I have shared my knowledge and resources on GitHub - though admittedly, they're getting a little out of date! In my personal life, I am an avid travellor with a deep love of both deserts and mountains (and especially the intersection of the two). I maintain a meditation practice that is a great comfort and provides clarity in turbulent times, I love hunting for gems in thrift shops, and I play guitar and sing (most often in front of a fire).
