About Sean Oconnor

I started my career with the Federal Government as a casual CR-04 working in administration in the Real Property Management directorate in Ottawa, ON. I eventually worked my way up and became a Financial Resource Officer with the Canadian Coast Guard working primarily on contracting and payment processing. I then went on to become a Financial Officer and began my career as part of the FI community. In 2013, I moved to Fredericton, NB to help launch the centralized DFO Accounting Hub (now called Accounting Operations). In 2017, I moved back to Ottawa and in March 2018, I began a position with CHRC in financial operations. In April 2020 I returned to DFO Accounting Operations and since November 2020, I have been acting as the Supervisor for the Accounts Payable team, supervising a team of ten. Our team deals with various payments, including, high-risk, G&C, foreign (wires), claims against the crown, etc. In my spare time, I am a volunteer hockey coach and have been doing this for more than twenty years. Currently, I coach the Northern Moose U18 team and we play in the NP PEI U18 League. Eventually, I would like to move into senior management and help shape the future of government. We are at a critical time, and we must modernize our operations if we want to attract the brightest and best people to work for us in the future.
