About Sean Olson

As Senior AVP, Real Estate Investments at Foss & Company, Sean is responsible for underwriting and evaluating Historic Tax Credit (HTC) equity investments on behalf of institutional investors. Prior to this role, Sean worked as a Risk Manager at CAHEC where he focused on underwriting Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) investments. Sean takes pride in his ability to combine his knowledge of the HTC and LIHTC program with his diverse experience in real estate development to effectively (and creatively) mitigate risks, all while maintaining a holistic view of the overall investment. Prior to joining CAHEC, Sean played an essential role in developing and managing Austin Lawrence Partners-East’s commercial real estate portfolio in Durham, North Carolina. As a member of a small team that developed over $150M of commercial real estate, Sean’s role encompassed all aspects of the real estate investment process: from research and underwriting, to financial modeling and analysis, to deal structuring and loan closing, and to acquisitions and asset management of commercial real estate. Sean has experience financing projects with complicated capital structures (including those using historic tax credits), and his asset class experience includes multifamily rental, multifamily for-sale, office, retail, and hospitality. Sean earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with Honors. While at UNC Kenan-Flagler, he published an honors thesis on the inherent risks, challenges and benefits for developers utilizing historic tax credits to finance the adaptive reuse of historic buildings. Between his junior and senior years, Sean spent a summer working for Northwood Ravin, a Charlotte-based multifamily developer with over 25 properties throughout the southeast.
