About Sean Severe

Sean is a professor of economics at Drake University's Zimpleman College of Business. He also served as associate dean of the college from 2019-2023 where he oversaw faculty issues as well as served in various tasks assigned by the dean. He earned his B.A. in economics from Gonzaga University in 2006 and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Oregon in 2011. His primary fields are macroeconomics, monetary policy, growth and development, and applied econometrics. His dissertation examined how monetary policy is affected by banking concentration, both over business cycles and in the long-run. He am also interested in mergers and acquisitions in the banking sector, and how microfinance affects economic growth. Lastly, he is interested in regional economics and forecasting. Courses Taught: Principles of Macroeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Introduction to Econometrics, and Money and Banking. He has also served as an adviser for independent studies in Growth Economics and The Economics of Microfinance. Beyond teaching and researching, Sean is the advisor for the Drake University Triathlon Club, an avid runner (half marathoner and marathoner mostly), and has volunteered for Meet Operations of track and field events held in Des Moines the last two years. His volunteer work has included the 2012 and 2013 Drake Relays, the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships, and the 2013 USATF Outdoor Championships. Webpage: http://seansevere.wix.com/index
