Being Indigenous and a first-generation Residential School Survivor has played a pivotal role in my career and advocacy. The gateway that led me to a career in human services is my 20 year employment as a hairstylist and trainer. I have now been working in various human services roles and support work for 7 years in both the non-profit and public sectors, however I have always been an advocate and voice for Indigenous rights. The constant learning and evolution of skills is really what keeps this work interesting. I have worked with youth, Indigenous peoples, in mental health, homelessness, 2SLQBTQ+, housing and in addictions. Currently I am working as an Indigenous Health Policy Researcher. My growth in this field has been exponential, as I have acted as team lead and have trained/facilitated in all aspects.
