I am a highly motivated, enthusiastic and flexible researcher in the field of Pharmacology and Immunology. As a postdoctoral researcher at Lund University, Sweden, I investigated the regulation of antiviral innate immunity and airway inflammation during viral-induced (TLR3-mediated) exacerbations of asthma and COPD using primary structural cells and cells from healthy individuals and asthma/COPD patients. Additionally, I conducted several pharmacological studies with asthma/COPD drugs in vitro. During my PhD at Utrecht University, The Netherlands, I investigated the role of the toll-like receptors and nod-like receptors in acute and chronic asthma and the modulation of allergic airway inflammation and remodeling in mice by beneficial bacteria with or without non-digestible oligosaccharides. To investigate the role of the Toll-like receptors in airway inflammation and remodeling, murine models for allergen-induced allergic asthma were used. I have a Bachelor’s and a Master's of Science in Molecular Life Sciences from the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. I did two Master’s internships. During my first internship in Nijmegen I investigated the regulation of the multidrug transporter, P-glycoprotein, by inflammatory mediators. I did my second Master’s internship at Organon Biosciences NV in Oss, The Netherlands, during which I investigated the optimalisation of a human nuclear receptor ligand- binding domain in complex with small molecule inhibitors.
