Business Engagement I Economic Development & Tourism I Helping business start, connect and grow - Originally from the UK, Selma has more than 20 years experience in both business and government. She currently lead the Economic Development team at the City of Charles Sturt creating and delivering programs that build business capability and skills, attract investment and promote the region. With a background in chemistry, Selma took her first steps into running a start-up business with Oceans ESU Ltd, an environmental consultancy specialising in the design and delivery of tailored environmental solutions for a wide range of global projects. As an Environmental Consultant and then Systems Development Manager and Director, Selma established a reputation as a passionate leader at Oceans ESU Ltd, developing strategies and building strong relationships which resulted in exceptional business growth. The management, coordination and supervision of land contamination environmental surveys and remediation strategies took Selma worldwide. Within fifteen years Selma had helped to grow the small UK environmental consultancy into a leading global company. In 2012, Selma moved to Adelaide bringing her business growth experience, marketing and communication skills to roles within Economic Development and Tourism at the City of Adelaide and City of Charles Sturt. Selma is committed to achieving the best outcomes for the business community through economic development, marketing, and communication strategies. Selma develops and implements strategies to build the capability of local businesses and showcase the region through strategic marketing and communications to attract investment and promote visitation. Selma is passionate about creating great Cities and has led economic recovery initiatives during COVID-19 to assist businesses to recover, reset and reposition for the future. Selma completed her MBA in 2020 with the Australian Institute of Business and was awarded both the Deans Merit Award and Valedictorian and is the Alumni Representative on the Teaching and Learning Committee and a member of their Customer Experience Panel.
