About Seneca Schwartz

I remember asking my dad once how movies are made. He quickly grabbed his camera and showed me how to make someone disappear through the magic of editing. I was hooked in an instant. As someone who has always been interested in telling stories, film appeals to me as a medium that is evocative, efficient and engaging. These moving images have the ability to make someone go from crying to laughing, and even make people reflect and feel inspired to create change in their own life. I use film to shine a light on issues that I care about. Being a Queer Japanese-American woman has given me a unique perspective that I can weave into stories about coming of age, family dynamics, and different cultural values. Additionally, my background as a female athlete in the male dominated action sport of Parkour has inspired me to create films that empower and uplift women through documentary films, and tell female centric narratives. Filmmaking has helped me find my voice, and I hope to continue to use it as a way to prompt important conversations and inspire change; both on a grand scale and on a personal level.
