Dr. Senthil Vel is the Arthur O. Willey Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maine. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Tech an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (1996), an M.A. in Mathematics (1996), and a B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (1993). He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the recipient of the Presidential Outstanding Teaching Award at the University of Maine (2018). His research interests include solid mechanics, composite structures, computational mechanics, multiscale analysis of heterogeneous materials, and the mechanics of 2D materials.
