About Sequoia Riley

I am a subject matter expert and researcher in climate adaptation and resiliency. Through my graduate studies and work, I have developed a broad understanding of flood mitigation using green infrastructure. I am the first African American to graduate with a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning at UH Manoa. My areas of expertise include hazard mitigation, adaptation planning, mitigation policies, risk assessment, socioeconomic analysis, and community outreach. As a researcher, I have managed teams that performed research and wrote peer-review papers. I have also studied aspects of climate change and conducted geospatial analysis, using GIS/HEC-RAS to perform flood modeling. In 2022, I completed a Ph.D. in Urban Planning with a focus on climate adaptation and resiliency. My dissertation focused on barriers to green infrastructure in flood mitigation. Earlier, I completed a master’s degree in Marine Science Management and an undergraduate degree in Marine Science. This background has given me a broad understanding of issues related to climate change. During my studies, I also developed broad technical skills that include ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, SAS, and advanced skills in Excel.
