Background
About Serena Dykman
Growing up a third-culture kid fed me with an insatiable curiosity for the other; more than a desire to explore, it’s a deep need to understand what makes us unique, which ultimately -should- bring us together. I juxtapose the lives and circumstances of people who would not otherwise meet in my story worlds;[TIPS], A series which explores the vast fabric and communities of NYC in a Manhattan nail salon; a place where appearances cover both the harsh and trivial realities of the immigrant workers and eclectic customers. TIPS is a 8x30mn scripted dramedy series, ready to be optioned and produced (episodes are written, series bible, sizzle and proof of concept are available).[WELCOME], A narrative about a US-educated Czech doctor who’s denied entry to the US because of Kafkaeque immigration laws [The Doorman], A comedy series in development about a NYC doorman who performs sexual favors for elderly ladies [Bed Bugs & Company], A quirky comedy about a bedbug inspector who sees intimate aspects of terrified New Yorkers [NANA], A theatrically-released feature documentary, which I made at 23, about my grandmother, Auschwitz survivor and Dr. Mengele’s translator; a Mensch who despite her unfathomable past, dedicated her life to publicly speaking to people of all backgrounds so that they’d understand the dangers of prejudice and intolerance. NANA has been screened throughout the world, including at Yale, CWB and Amnesty International. It was chosen by the European Commission and European Jewish Congress where I did a talk with the EC First Vice-President and world-renowned historian Sir Simon Schama; and picked up by First Run Features and released theatrically. I’m a graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts Film & Television program. I directed comedy, drama, documentary, branded content and music videos and won over 40 awards including a Webby; my work has been selected in 80 film festivals worldwide, including Cannes and Oscar-qualifiers. I won the Women eNews 21 leaders in the 21st century award alongside Abigail Disney and other badass women! I founded Dyamant Pictures, a production company which has collaborated with NYC Ballet Principal Dancers, The Guggenheim, MuMu, Kaplan and others. As a director and visual storyteller, I enjoy creating thought-provoking content, making the universal personal, subtly influencing and breaking stereotypes whilst entertaining society and sharing universal truths! Let's chat about your next project! info@dyamantpictures.com Green card and EU passport holder. Can work internationally.
