About Sergio Simoes

I am a versatile Cell Biologist and Product Development Scientist/Manager, with a deep interest in new challenges and continuous learning. I combine over 20 years of experience both in academic research in Cell and Developmental Biology as well as in Product Development in the Medical Cannabis industry. I use multidisciplinary approaches including Quantitative Live Imaging, Molecular Biology, Genetics and Biophysics to address fundamental questions about genetic regulation of cytoskeleton, cell polarity, cell adhesion and membrane trafficking in the context of cancer development and tissue morphogenesis, having contributed to 10 peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals. I also worked cross-functionally in Product Development, from product inception to launch, being responsible to manage formulation development, Operations set up, Qualification of Processes and Tech transfer. I am versed in synthesizing product knowledge and doing market analysis, including identifying points of differentiation and cost efficiencies.
