About Seth Egger

I am a highly accomplished researcher and data scientist with 10+ years of experience analyzing complex and high dimensional data sets from the field of neuroscience. After earning my PhD in neuroscience, I honed skills applying statistical modeling, dimensionality reduction, machine learning, neural network models, and artificial intelligence to understanding the function of the brain in research positions at MIT and Duke University. Together this experience makes me an expert deriving practical insights from data and developing predictive models that drive discovery. Through this experience I’ve learned that my passion is discovering hidden variables driving the trends in high dimensional data and developing process models that allow for robust prediction. I’m particularly excited to model complex data with latent dynamical systems and devise action policies through the inferences those models allow. To do so I deploy an extensive toolbox including:* Systems identification and its application to time-series data.* Statistical modeling using Bayesian methods for latent variable estimation.* Dimensionality reduction and distance metrics to derive key insights from large data sets.* Neural network models for estimation and action.* Nonlinear dynamical system modeling of latent variable interactions.* Machine learning and artificial intelligence to predict time-series data. While my background is rich in addressing fundamental questions in neuroscience, my true talent lies in the application of critical thinking to determining the solutions to complex problems. I apply a multidisciplinary approach to designing experiments, formulating precise questions, and making qualitative and quantitative inferences from data. I thrive on creating visualizations that allow for deep insights about complex systems and look forward to leveraging my toolbox to devise new methods that tackle complex problems in data science, biomedical device development, and consulting work aimed at deploying informed action policies. I consider communication of the complexities and technical nuances of the problems I take on a critical step to transforming the insights behind my discoveries into practical solutions to real world problems. As such, I work hard to develop language and visuals that effectively convey key findings to the target audience in my technical writing, publications, and presentations.
