About Seth MacKovjak

I have always moved at a fast pace with interest in spending time in and making the best of the outdoors available in the Northwest. I began my interest in engineering working with Lego Technic sets learning about mechanical and pneumatic systems. This quickly made endless questions arise about how systems work and how they are improved. Working hands on repairing basic combustion engines found in older motorcycles gave me an idea of the basics of what is tied together (chemistry, electronics, mechanics, etc.) to make them work before I was a teen. This intrigued me to continue learning more increasing my understanding of the steps taken to improve reliability, performance, and production cost of systems. This experience improved farther by working beside engineers on a small hydroelectric power station in Southeast Alaska where I was given the opportunity to work my way up the ladder from a labor position to maintenance and operation of heavy equipment. Taking a step past, I spent three seasons commercial gill-netting in South-East Alaska. This forced me to accept more responsibilities and work under conditions that very few will face throughout their career. With my goal being set to become an engineer for more than a decade, I steered away from the fishing scenario to gather experience. Being granted an internship at HP, I worked beneath a very experienced mentor who taught a variety of real-world engineering practices. These practices varied from ways to streamline GD & T, have components or assemblies produced at local machine shops, working with 3D printing, and many others. Today, having graduated from Oregon State University with a B.S. in mechanical engineering, I've enjoyed taking the next step as a mechanical engineer at Dart Aerospace which allows me to share what I have learned and practiced with others while continuing to learn more.
