About Seth Newman

After one week as the CMO of a massive tent hospital in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake, I knew this was the work I was called to do. Empowering my team to deliver care to those who would not ordinarily receive it, despite the overwhelming challenge, was humbling - I had found my WHY. This was the experience that sparked my transformation from operating surgeon to leader. I serve as Immediate Past President of the Medical Staff at Jefferson Abington Hospital, and also manage a multi-disciplinary surgical group, working in a dyad with our office manager on HR, finance, and logistics, among other things. We work in deep alliance with Jefferson for the good of our shared patients. Education of surgical trainees in the OR, and all aspects of patient care, is not only core to who I am and a source of great joy for me, but is an essential component of our organization. My favorite leadership project at Jefferson Abington Hospital was creating and leading the 9-month Abington Physician and APC Leadership Program, for mid-career leaders, achieving a 95% attendance and outstanding survey feedback with participants asking for more! We are working on upcoming added sessions and Patient Safety Officer training as well.
