About Sever Mican

I was always passionate about technology and understanding how things work. I always loved to tinker, repair and upgrade. My first contact with the field of electronics was in high-school, the curriculum being oriented towards electronics and telecommunications. My passion for electronics started growing from there. I was always interested in how sensors work, and how they can be interfaced with computers and other systems in order to perform and automate measurements or remote control. The thirst for understanding led me to pursue an engineer's degree in Technological Physics, followed by a Master's degree and a PhD in Physics. This pursuit steadily evolved, initially into a researcher position, followed by a full-time lecturer position. At Babeș-Bolyai University, Faculty of Physics, I taught Electronics, Sensors and Microwaves/RF undergraduate courses, while also conducting research in the field of spintronics. Therefore, in addition to a fundamental understanding of the basics of electronics and sensors, I also have to keep in touch with the latest trends and technologies. This furthered my interest in the field, which goes far beyond academia and into the industry. I worked for almost 3 years at Elektrobit as a Technical Writer and Senior Hardware Engineer. I am now working as a Functional Test Design Engineer at Plexus Corp. Some of my achievements include the following- Successfully supervised and coordinated the execution of 3 national research projects in the course of 5 years- Successfully managed and completed a research project worth euros in the course of one year- Overcame obstacles such as delays in funding and supply, lack of personnel and unforeseen events like serious or catastrophic equipment malfunctions- Built a PID temperature controller for a fraction of the commercial price- Designed a new optical sensor for a magnetic measurement system- Constructed a low-cost scale for weighing microgram samples- Upgraded various laboratory measurement equipment. Throughout my experience I realized that constant and consistent communication is the key to solving problems. Some of my specialties include: project management/supervision, mixed signal electronics, sensors, microcontrollers, programming in Python, and C/C++, Git, SVN, Jira, Matlab, SolidWorks, OrCAD, LTSpice, and PCB fabrication techniques. In my spare time I am a radio amateur, an amateur guitarist, a gamer and a railroad and aviation enthusiast. I also love to read. Feel free to get in contact with me so that we can discuss more.
