About Severina Scott

I discovered my passion for connecting with students and helping them with their education goals during my time in academia as a PhD student at the University of Michigan. After receiving a Master’s degree, I pivoted from academia to pursue a career in tutoring and one-on-one mentorship opportunities. I have recently accepted positions as a private tutor to Elementary and High School students and as a college admissions counselor at My Pathway to College. In my role as a private tutor, I excel at individually mentoring students with diverse identities, including students who are from underrepresented backgrounds in higher education, who are on the Autism spectrum, or who have learning differences such as Dyslexia and ADHD. Additionally, I leverage my experience from academia as an instructor, a research mentor, and a graduate student supervisor at U of M, where I designed and delivered engaging and accessible courses, supported students' academic and personal growth, and facilitated collaborative and respectful learning environments. Some of my accomplishments include creating and teaching a semester-long course curriculum that emphasized marginalized histories of diverse communities, mentoring international high-school students to complete original research projects for college applications, and co-coordinating the monthly American History Workshop to help fellow graduate students with their dissertation solutions. I also achieved recognition as a Rackham Merit Fellow for students from underrepresented backgrounds in the academy.
