About Shaan Burton

Shaan is a Legal Director of the marine team who handles a wide variety of dry shipping matters. Shaan handles shipping and marine insurance claims and her practice includes the review and analysis of contracts for major freight forwarders, the defence of cargo damage claims, warehousing disputes, and providing policy coverage advice. Shaan has significant experience of advising multinational freight forwarders, handling CMR disputes, as well as general contractual issues and cargo claims. Shaan has a particular focus on the transit of fine art and the theft of general valuable cargo and wilful misconduct issues. Shaan's policy coverage practice is extensive and includes not only coverage defences, but extends to advising insurers on suitable policy wordings for particular insured's and sectors. Shaan handles warehouse disputes, in particular, advising on the duty of care when looking after goods, and also claims brought pursuant to UKWA. Shaan has been recommended and listed in the Legal 500 2017 as a "Next Generation Lawyer" and "future star". In the Legal 500 2018 Shaan was described as having a “growing reputation” and in 2020 edition Shaan was described as continuing to “outperform her peers and produces some amazing results” and a “rising star”. In the Gracechurch London Market Insurance Law Report 2019 Shaan was nominated for “delivering outstanding service” and being “very responsive, can get inside the box in terms of strategy”.
