About Shaemus Tracey

For as long as I can remember, I have always had the desire to help people. Initially I expressed this through small gestures such as holding the door open for others or offering my seat on public transit. These small actions gave me a sense of pride and became a part of my daily routine. As I grew, I began developing a passion for problem solving and innovation. This started with tinkering around with tools I could find in the garage and progressed to examining devices’ hardware. I would try to understand how it worked, what its limiting factors were, and how it could be improved. This passion drove me to completing an undergraduate degree in Mechatronic Systems Engineering. My desire to help people and advance my engineering skills inspired me to complete a thesis-based master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. My research was focused on modelling and evaluating piezoelectric actuators for wearable mechatronic devices. I have a broad skill set in designing, testing, and troubleshooting the mechanical, electrical, and programming aspects of robotic devices and systems. I can promptly understand how devices function and develop creative solutions for problems at hand. My extensive experience in engineering workshops and labs has allowed me to become well acquainted with engineering specific tools and instrumentation. Acting as a teaching assistant for both a mechatronic and biomedical design course, I have developed a true appreciation for the engineering design process and employ it within my own endeavours. My goal is to help advance the field of engineering through developing devices that truly make a difference in someone’s life. I am committed to intellectual honesty, creative vision, and take great pride in my work. I want to grow my daily routine to involve the development of essential technological solutions so I can continue to hold the door open for people in a more meaningful way.
