About Shane Horsefield

I have a strong passion for innovative research and novel inventions. I completed my Masters of Molecular Biology and PhD studies at the University of Queensland. The focus of my PhD was structural characterisation of proteins in the innate immune system. During this time, I led a research project in collaboration with national and international research groups, research organisations and a US-based therapeutic company. I published my work in Science as first author, and received funding for collaborative projects developing drugs for neurodegenerative diseases, before the conferral of my PhD.Previously, I held an appointment as a Research Officer at the Queensland Institute for Medical Research (QIMR) Berghofer, where I led projects characterising novel engineered proteins for use in vaccines against HCMV and therapeutic antibodies developed against EBV. I was involved in several other projects including CAR-T cells and T cell therapies.I have extensive experience in chemistry and small molecule drug development. I received funding for the development of a drug discovery pipeline at QIMR Berghofer using state-of-the-art AI algorithms to create platforms for developing small molecules for neurodegenerative disorders.Currently I am employed at Griffith Hack, an intellectual property firm who really focuses on working with clients and their specific intellectual property needs.
