About Shane Malone

As the Head of Experiential Education at Stamford American International School, I lead and design impactful programs that immerse students in experiential learning opportunities across diverse environments. My role involves shaping the school-wide experiential education framework, overseeing academic field studies, and aligning learning experiences with broader educational goals, including the Cognita Outdoor Education curriculum. Before stepping into this role, my career began in 2012 after graduating and becoming accredited with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). I worked in Scottish secondary schools during the implementation phase of the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE), fostering a deep interest in curriculum design. My experience in a mix of PE, specialized sports schools, and student support roles provided a well-rounded understanding of the public education system. In 2014, I transitioned to the Middle East, where I embraced the world of iGCSE and the National Curriculum, later shifting into the Middle Years Programme (MYP). Over six years in the Middle East, I grew to appreciate local cultures, explore leadership opportunities in education, and represent academic staff in operations based discussions. This experience honed my skills in team leadership and academic innovation. Relocating to Singapore in 2020 marked a pivotal moment in my career, allowing me to diversify my professional path while working alongside my wife, a fellow PE teacher, and delving into master's studies in educational leadership. Throughout my career, I've maintained a profound passion for curriculum development, coupled with a deep interest in emotional intelligence, effective team design, student voice, and personal philosophical growth. I specialize in planning and executing major experiential trips, including those to Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Nepal, where students engage with global issues such as deforestation, biodiversity, and reconciliation. By involving key stakeholders such as student support services, nursing, and pastoral teams, I ensure that every trip is safe, inclusive, and aligned with our educational goals. As I continue to innovate and drive experiential learning programs, I'm eager to connect with educators and professionals who share my passion for shaping holistic, impactful educational experiences.
