Work! It's one those things we will be doing for a long time. We might as well choose what we do for the right reasons and love it as best we can. Doing work I have been passionate about has always been important to me. My passion for food service began when I was just getting into the workforce at the ripe young age of 14. The industry introduced me to foods I did not know existed and so the exposure was tantalizing to my taste buds! I continued working in restaurants, and enrolled in culinary school in Short lived, I never made it as I was hired by PYA/Monarch for a street sales position. Even though a very challenging position and a big change for me, I was elated at the opportunity and found myself falling in love with the all the aspects of my new found job. I would stay at it for over 17 years! About years prior to leaving, the now defunct merger of US Foods and Sysco was in the workings, all of our careers suddenly had an uncertain future and people were dropping like flies, quitting, jumping ship or otherwise holding on for dear life! I on the other hand opened up a small business, under the umbrella of another strong passion of mine, a specialty running store. Having now run over 18 plus marathons (26.2 miles) and several ultra's including a 100 miler (much later after opening) I decided i could bring expert help, advice and a line of quality products to our local and visiting athletes as well as fill a need right here in the community. About two years into the business and doing US Foods, the nagging started to come."Pick one, Shane!" and "You can't do both!" a little voice inside me would shout. This went on and on and I went back and forth. I've never been afraid to take risks! Fall down nine times, get back up ten, right! I'd be losing everything though, high salary commission, 401k, benefits, etc. But a dream. the opportunity to make something real, I just couldn't shake it!
