Background
About Shane Stecyk
Shane Stecyk, PhD, ATC, CSCS, is the Director of the Athletic Training Program at California State University, Northridge and founder of the Institute for Performance, Rehabilitation & Wellness. Dr. Stecyk has 20 years of experience treating, educating and mentoring individuals and teams from a diversity of backgrounds and ethnicities. He is a certified athletic trainer, certified strength and conditioning specialist and certified golf fitness professional. His research interests lie in the relationships between psychological and biomechanical factors and injury and performance. Previous work has been focused on dance science and baseball pitching. His clinical experiences include working with athletes at the high school, recreational, and professional levels; the general public, performing artists, and runners. His wife, Nancy Lozano-Stecyk, is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern and Addictions Specialist. She is certified in various Evidenced-Based Practices focused on the treatment of trauma in children and adults. She is also completing certification with UC Davis Children’s Hospital on Parent Child Interactive Therapy specializing in the treatment of children ages 2-7. Both Dr. Stecyk’s and his wife’s long-term plan is to develop a comprehensive wellness center that utilizes a sports medicine team approach to health, wellness, prevention, and performance. Exercise will be integrated as an adjunct treatment for mental health and, conversely, psychological strategies will be integrated to improve exercise compliance and help people adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors. Currently, the IPRW provides individualized strength and conditioning programs for the athletes at Granada Hills Charter High School. Other services include individual and group exercise, weight loss, fitness, injury prevention, sports performance, sports specific training and educational workshops. The IPRW will continue to develop into a comprehensive wellness center.
