About Shannon Manseau

Teachers are a resource to the parents in the development of children. I feel strongly that the parents have a privilege and a responsibility in the teaching and training of their children. I believe that education should be fun, interesting and enjoyable. I also believe that the classroom allows students an opportunity to learn the social skills of interacting as groups and individuals. Many parents interpret this to mean that it is the government’s responsibility to educate children and that very little of that responsibility falls on the shoulders of the parents. Children will learn best when parents are involved in the complete education of their child. When a parent does not participate in their homework, science fairs, and teacher conferences and showing a concern in their school life, this sends a message to the students that school is not important. Parents should be included in the formal school education with trips to museums, zoos, cultural centers, sports and various activities. They should make available to their children encyclopedias, almanacs, magazines and literature. When this happens, the schoolteacher is empowered for teaching. The teacher is able to supplement the base of knowledge and build on the foundation created at home. Likewise the teacher must always look for ways to involve the parents. The teacher can involve the parents by giving syllabuses, grading guidelines, web based technologies, and making themselves very accessible to the parents. Children are inherently interested in learning new ideas and concepts. I believe that it is a rewarding experience for the teacher and the student when the student is excited about the new information that he is learning. Many applications and fun facts should be displayed in the room. In conclusion, my goal is to find ways to encourage and facilitate students to enjoy each other’s company and I want the support and the participation of the parents in the education of their children.
