About Shannon Shaffer

My true love is teaching students with significant special needs and/or multiple impairments at any age level as well as training and supporting the teachers who serve them. My goal is to equip teachers to provide their students with the instruction that enables them to reach their full potential and become active members of their peer group whether on the playground, in the classroom, on the job site, and/or the community. I strive to provide learning environments throughout the school district that enable each student to develop the abilities they already have and to create new learning experiences that will add to their knowledge and interaction with their world. As I have had the opportunity to write and implement curriculum for students on a prerequisite academic level, I have seen students throughout the school district learn and succeed beyond what was ever thought possible. It is my deepest belief that every child can learn. My future mission includes: Developing a servant ministry mentoring and encouraging families with children with special needs, especially children with significant special needs. Provide individuals and families support in making short term and lifelong decisions for their children. To help families see God’s special purpose for themselves and their children now and for all eternity. Provide the following services: • IEP Review and advice • Community services guidance • Mediation between families and schools • ARD support • A sounding board and brainstorming for family concerns • Person Centered Planning meetings • Provide guidance and comfort for parents who have just found out they are expecting a child or have given birth to a child with special needs
