About Shannon Walker

I have vast experience working with at risk youth who had many cognitive and behavioural barriers. These youth had extensive violent histories for categorical federal offences. I furthered my experience by working with Aboriginal women who were affected by concurrent disorders and engaged in high risk behaviour while continuing my work with Xyolhemeylh Aboriginal Child and Family Services by supporting families working through the foster system. I was a mental health worker near the DTES with the Kettle Friendship Society then became a rehabilitation and recovery worker at Riverview Hospital where I continue to work with patients who struggle with addiction and acute mental illness. During my time at Riverview Hospital I became more knowledgeable about forensic psychology which led my path to working at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital as a rehabilitation worker. In these positions I use CBT and DBT skill sets, provide personal counselling, and assist with life skills development. Now that I am nearly done my Master of Counselling and specialized training in EMDR, I have opened a clinic to offer counselling services for mental illness, trauma, addiction, and relationships.
