About Shanshan Wang

Shanshan currently serves as a Senior Engineer at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. Her work focuses on evaluating the seismic risk of commercial property asset portfolios, from a property insurance perspective. Along with her Catastrophe Engineering and Analytics teammates, Shanshan drives engineering-based underwriting and pricing decisions at Berkshire, as well as provide tailored views of catastrophe risk for unique assets for key customers. Shanshan obtained her M.S. and Ph.D. in Structural Engineering at University of California, Berkeley. Her doctoral research focus is on evaluating the seismic performance of tall buildings in the west coast of the United States, and exploring cost-effective retrofit strategies for buildings that have inadequate seismic resistance. Shanshan desires to bridge the gap between the engineering, academic, and insurance worlds, and is actively involved in the engineering community, collaboration with leading academic research institutions, and insurance industry organizations.
