About Shanta Atkins

As a high school teacher at ICEF Public Schools, I provide quality education and prepare students from diverse backgrounds for college and career success. I teach US History and Ethnic Studies, using an innovative and engaging curriculum that integrates literacy, critical thinking, and project-based learning. For example, I designed and implemented a unit on the civil rights movement that involved reading primary sources, conducting interviews, and creating documentaries. I have a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from San Diego State University and I am pursuing a master's degree in social sciences from Relay Graduate School of Education. I also hold a five-year substitute teacher license from California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. I have over 7 years of experience as a middle school teacher and a reading interventionist, where I developed and implemented educational materials, monitored student progress, and managed the classroom effectively. I am passionate about learning and growing as an educator and a leader, and I strive to create a positive and supportive learning environment for my students.
