My name is Shantel Johnson, and I am currently a second-year student at HGTC. I am pursuing a degree in Human Services, and I am a few months away from fulfilling this journey. Presently, I am a Caregiver at Comfort Keepers in Myrtle Beach, SC, and I take pleasure in what I do in my line of work. Over the years, I have acquired my CNA license, First Aid Certification, BLS Certification, as well as my OSHA Certification. My goal is to increase my knowledge and altruistic skills through my studies at HGTC so that I can help others inside of my community. The reason that I chose this career path in Human Services is because I have always wanted to make a difference in other people’s lives and create a difference in my community. In my current career path, I use skills that I can apply in my new journey to help me become an astounding Human Service Professional. I am suitable for this role because I feel I can relate to some of the struggles and problems of my clients because some of us may even come from the same exact backgrounds. I am currently an Intern at North Strand Helping Hand in Longs, SC, and our goal is to provide services to some of the most vulnerable individuals in our community. This can range from anything to food, clothes, utility assistance, and even shelter. North Strand Helping Hand is a Non-Profit Organization that aids in providing emergency assistance to the Northern side of Horry County. Furthering my studies would help me to achieve my goal of becoming a Human Service Professional. I plan to achieve this by using my verbal and communication skills, my determination to make a difference, and being an advocate for my community.
