About Shantelle Common

I am a proud Boorooberongal Darug and English woman with a deep commitment to family advocacy and policy change. As a parent with lived experience of the child protection system, I bring a unique and invaluable perspective to my work. My career spans various impactful roles within the Department of Planning and Environment, including the Aboriginal People and Culture Team with the Office of the Secretary, and the Regulatory and Capability team with the Natural Resources Access Regulator. In these roles, I have developed a strong foundation in strategic planning, government and community stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance.Beyond my professional roles, I am deeply involved in community groups focused on parent and family advocacy, family inclusion, restorative practice, and domestic violence. My engagements include the International Parent Advocacy Network Board, Newcastle DV Committee, Family Inclusion Strategies in the Hunter Committee, and the Hunter Restorative Community. Through these efforts, I am dedicated to elevating the voices of families, advocating for their decision-making power, and driving policy and practice changes to ensure families can stay together.
