About Shari Drumond

Hi all. My name is Shari Drumond, and I am an educator, scholar and musician based in South Florida. I am currently working on my PhD in English (Rhetoric and Composition) at the University of South Florida. Currently, I hold a Master of Arts in Composition, Rhetoric and Digital Media from NSU, a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from FAU, and an Associate of Arts from Broward College. I have a passion for teaching. During my time at FAU, I was able to sit in on a wealth of different classes at both the primary and secondary levels. Outside of my observations for school, I also taught violin lessons in Hialeah Gardens for 2 years. I personally play the viola; this was my principal instrument when I initially started at FAU as a music education major. There are multiple software that I am familiar with. I use GarageBand for iOS, the operating system for iPhones, Canva, Google and all of its applications, Microsoft Office and other software for teachers such as Blackboard, Canvas and LiveText. Social media is also something that I try to utilize in and out of the classroom include LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter (now "X"). My Master's thesis discussed social media and how Black women are using it to make rhetorical arguments with natural hair. Now that I'm going back to school, I want to delve deeper into the notion of visual rhetoric - my personal favorite - and make connections between that and social media, Black body politics, feminist theory and intersectionality.
