Hon. Dr Sharman Stone has been a longstanding advocate for gender equality in Australia and internationally. An Australian politician from March 1996 to 2016, she represented the regional Division of Murray and held a number of portfolios. Sharman has authored titles on Australian race relations and Government policy, environmental impacts on human communities, and human rights. She has championed family planning access, the elimination of corruption, FASD, the reduction of poverty and the end to exploitation of unregulated, unskilled migrant labour in the Indo-Asia-Pacific. When advocating for overcoming disadvantage in numerous international fora, Sharman always addresses the role of Australia in supporting the region’s special needs. Sharman is now the Director of the Australian Institute of Family Studies.
