About Sharon Beck

Hello LinkedIn, I am a consultant on the Professional Learning team at Ohio State University, where I support faculty in teaching online and teaching with technology. I develop and facilitate faculty-facing online courses, workshops, learning communities, and other resources and enjoy helping instructors turn their passion for teaching into well-designed courses that support student success. I’m also an educator. I taught for 7 years at the University of Colorado’s Program for Writing and Rhetoric, where I mastered the use of various learning management systems (Blackboard, Desire2Learn, Canvas) to create face-to-face and online courses with an emphasis on information and digital literacy. My courses included First-Year Writing, Comics and the Graphic Novel, the Grotesque in Art and Literature, the Rhetoric of War, and Writing in the Visual Arts. I once had a student call me the second-most charismatic teacher he’d ever had. Once upon a time I was also a freelance editor and proofreader. Experienced in both academic and trade publishing, I’ve edited scholarly journals, textbooks, and YA fiction and nonfiction. One time I read every play written by Shakespeare (twice) for an e-book conversion project. All of my job experiences have centered on creating learning opportunities, whether it was for students, instructors, or the everyday reader. I've always welcomed new opportunities, and I embrace new challenges.
