About Sharon Knieper

In my current role at Planned Parenthood Federation of America I focus on the management and governance of fundraising data used in digital engagement platforms (EveryAction, Hustle, Strive) and the database of record (Salesforce). At New York Cares I led a team of 6 in supporting 70-90 staff members' information technology needs; providing secure devices and Saas tools (Microsoft, LastPass, Asana); developing and maintaining business databases (Salesforce); and designing, developing and maintaining the New York Cares website (Drupal), which supports thousands of New Yorkers volunteering every month. In my freelance work I provided user experience research assistance, usability and information architecture advice, and Drupal design, development and maintenance. I believe in taking a holistic approach to digital experiences and creating new services. As the User Experience Strategist with the Health Sciences Library I identified, collected, and connected data to better understand patrons' information needs and partnered with library staff to develop new services. In my previous positions at Columbia University and the University of Michigan, I used open source technologies to develop user centered websites. This included conducting interviews, running usability studies and card-sorting exercises, creating user flow models, analyzing web analytics data, and coding custom Drupal modules and themes. Prior to my graduate studies in information science I worked in public libraries and ballet. In my free time I am a certified Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement instructor.
